Read the following statements.  In your comments, write whether you agree or disagree and WHY for each statement:

1. Courage always involves sacrifice or loss. (AGREE/ DISAGREE)
Why or why not?
2. When a hero is born, he or she is already different from other people. (AGREE/ DISAGREE)
Why or why not?
3. Someone can be considered a hero only if they win. (AGREE/ DISAGREE)
Why or why not?
4. If a person does something heroic but gets something out of doing it, like a reward, then she or he is not a hero. (AGREE/ DISAGREE)
Why or why not?

  1. I agree with the first statement because if there isn't sacrifice or loss there is nothing to be courageous about. I disagree with the second statement because in a lot of stories the heroes just get caught up in something, like in Spirited Away. In the third statement i agree because a person can die saving someone else and still be a hero. I disagree with the last statement but only if the thing that you get in return benefits someone else, like Haku helped Yubaba in return for Chero to get a chance to get her parents back.- Sebastian

  2. 1- disagree because you can become brave, turning into a loss.
2-disagree because George Washington was a normal person, just went so much farther, so much faster than everyone else.
3- I disagree because people, like in 9/11, some won, like the people who crashed the plane in Pen. were heros, but also LOST their lives.
4-I disagree because, again, George Washington won and, helped get freedom for his country.

  3. Courage does not always involve sacrifice or loss. For example, if it's your first day of rock climbing you may need courage to try it. But you don't have to sacrifice or lose anything.

I disagree that when a hero is born he or she is already different because anyone can be a hero - special or normal.

I disagree that someone has to win to be a hero because if you win a game you are not the only star of the game. The losing team may have played harder than you making them heros too.

I disagree that when a person gets a reward for something heroic then he or she is not a hero. For example, a person is not a hero if they do a quest for the reward. But if the person does get a reward it doesn't mean they were not a hero.

  4. 1. I disagree. You can still be courageous and not lose anything.

    2. I disagree. Some people have normal births and then later on, they prove to be heroes.

    3. I disagree. Even if you lose a battle, but do something courageous, you are a hero.

    4. I disagree. Almost all the heroes in books and movies get a reward for being heroic. You are still a hero if you get a reward.

  6. 1. I disagree with the first statement because you can do something courageous and not lose anything. For example, you can be afraid of water and still rescue your drowning dog. It means conquering your fear, but you haven’t lost anything. Instead you gained the will to save your dog over your fear of water.

    2. I disagree with the second statement because babies are born without knowing what is going to happen in their lives. Everyone is influenced by something different as they grow up. Some people are influenced by their parents, others by experiences that have happened to them, either good or bad. The same person could be a hero or a bad person depending upon these influences and how they react to them.

    3. I disagree with the third statement because Connor Broekhart lost to Bonvilian the first time but was still considered a hero because he tried to save the king.

    4. I disagree with the fourth statement because Chihiro in “Spirited Away” is reunited with her parents, which is a reward, but her actions in saving them were heroic because she stopped the bad person.

  8. 1-Agree, because you have to be willing to give something up to be courageous.
2-Agree because all people are different.
3-Disagree because you can have a hero on your team and the team can lose but he is still the team's hero.
4-Disagree because if you lived in the middle ages and you saved a fellow citizen from an enemy knight and you got a lump of gold, and they said "Please I insist keep the gold" you are still a hero.

  9. Courage does not deserve sacrifice, because sacrifice is just putting yourself out there. It doesn't mean you are doing something heroic. Giving something up doesn't help you become a hero. You have to do something to become a hero. Even if you are born with special powers, you still have to have a quest. You don't have to win to be a hero. It doesn't matter if you win or lose. You just have to be someone of great spirit. You just have to be courageous. Someone who does something dangerous only for the reward is not heroic, like mercenary soldiers. But if a hero earns a reward in the end, he or she is still a hero.

    3. Someone can be considered a hero only if they win. (AGREE/ DISAGREE)
Why or why not?no because you could do something awsome.
    4. If a person does something heroic but gets something out of doing it, like a reward, then she or he is not a hero. (AGREE/ DISAGREE)

  11. I agree, because you can't gain anything without losing something.
I agree, because when you watch any movie the to be hero is always different.
I agree, because you could win something and that would be doing someone a favor.
Ya I agree, because most hero's out there end up getting a reward of some kind.

  13. I disagree with with all questions.
1.Courage is doing the right thing, even when it's hard.
    2. A hero doesn't have to be born different Everybody is different.
    3. A hero doesn't always have to win. A hero saves something or someone and is helpful, they do not win anything.
    4.No, a true hero doesn't need recognition.

  14. 1 No i disagree because courage dose not always involve sacrifice or lose it dose must of the time but not always.

2 No i disagree because the hero is born in the moment so what if Luke was born a Darth lords son he was born when he met Ben kanobi.

3 this one is up surd i disagree lets see how many examples i can come up with Luke gets his hand cut off cornor gets sent to ls on and on come on man or should i say girl.

4 i disagree because most every hero gets some thing out of ''their great ouest''chiro gets her family Luke gets to find out that Darth really is his father you get the point.

  15. for the first question i disagree a hero dosnt need to have a sacrifice to get courage some times they dont have courage but have dumb luck.
for the second qustion i disagree like in the hich hikers guide to the galaxy he was born normaly but he is kind of a hero in his own strange way.
as for question 3 no a hero is a hero be cause of what he does some one cant be a hero with out some losses.
yes they are a hero even if they get somthing out of it a hero is some one who does somthing to help them selves or others so they usualy get some form of reward.

  16. 1 I agree
    2 I agree
    3 I disagree
    4 I disagree
I agree with number 1 because most stories I read courage does come with a sacrifice.
I agree with number 2 because a lot of the time there are unusual circumstances of birth.
I disagree with number 3 because someone could win and not be a hero. Someone could lose and be a hero.
I disagree with number 4 because say you found someone's pet and you return it to them and they give you ten bucks. You'd still be a hero just cause you got ten bucks, doesn't mean you're not a hero.

  17. 1- agree because i think courage means there will be a sacrifice.
2-agree because like in Airman he was born in the air which is different than most people.
3-disagree you don't always have to win to be a hero, just need to be brave.
4-disagree.it is ok to get a reward
