Author Interview Response (Due Friday, January 13th)
Watch the interview above; then, write a response of at least five sentences. Your response should include your reaction to Lois Lowry. Did anything about her appearance surprise you? Were you surprised by anything she said? Are there any questions that you wish you could ask her? What do you think The Giver will be about based on this interview?
I think the book will be about Jonas changing the government. It shocked me that she won a Newberry award.I would ask her how long it took to change her Dystopia. Why did people take the book out of their library's?
Her appearance surprised me, because her name sounded like a mans name, so I thought she was a man. I was surprised about her saying that it won the Newbery Honor, yet it was challenged. I had thought that since it had the Newbery Honor, it must have a good reputation. I would ask her about what she put in it that might make people scared. I would also ask her how she gave "The Giver" its name. I bet that the book is about how that world had a revolution, caused by Jonas. Ian Clickner.
She doesn't involve electronics or new inventions. But the author seems kind of different, its because she doesn't seem like shes exited about writing it. But when she talks about her book she doesn't tell a summary about the book. I also wounder why it is different from the rest of her books?
When I was watching this interview a lot of things surprised me. I was shocked that this book was banned in libraries. I like how Louis Lowry gave us a hint about what the was like but did not give it away. I was surprised that Lowry was so well spoken and seemed to sound younger. If I met her I would ask what inspired her to write The Giver. I think The Giver will be about a boy who changes the way that people of his community think about the city. Cleve
when I was watching the interview i was surprised. I was most surprised when she told us that her book was questionable when it came to public access. I was also surprised when she said close to little actually about her book. I'm glad that she won the Newbery Honor thing and that the book seems to be more publicly used. I would ask her why she decided to create a dystopia instead of a utopia? Jack
When I was watching the interview I was surprised. I was sad about that a book that won the nobel prize could be easily be removed from libraries across the country. I liked that she gave us a hint about what the book was about. When she spoke she sounded like she was 35 years younger than she really is. I would ask her was this book your utopia or was it just a thought? I think the giver is a person that gives help to the town or gives help to the citizens.
I was surprised when Lois Lowry thought that The Giver couldn't win the Newberry prize award. Also, I thought that L. L. was a man. I was also surprised when Lois Lowry explain about how she made The Giver, and how easy it sounded. Also, why did she want to deceive the readers about it being a utopia when actually she knew that it was a dystopia. The book sounds like it is about a kid would is about 12, and want to help the government get rid of this terrible place where everyone is equal, where everything is fair.
When I was watching the interview, I was surprised because I thought that Lois Lowry was younger. I was also surprised that people wanted this book banned. The reason I think it shouldn't is because it's just a piece of well written literature. I would ask her if you could create a dystopia, what would it be like. The book might be about a boy who sets out to help and support others. Also, that government, technology, and people's needs can all be different than they seem.
